Welcome to a repository of resources related to expensive projects, dubious experiments and aerial adventures of arguable interest. They call me Dave from the Terraces of Briarwood in the desert of Phoenix. This retired RF jockey now plays radio full time for fun. My lovely wife Liz, has accepted my radio hobby. She serves as the voice of reason in budgetary and neighborly considerations (no tower).
When you lack sufficient land for horizontal wire antennas, vertical solutions start to look pretty good (still no tower). Take a look at the helium lifted vertical or try a separate receive aerial.
In this urban environment reception challenges abound from a variety of noise sources. I am quite familiar with sounds of appliances, dreaded plasma TVs and can name that air conditioner by its RF noise signature.
Added a computer interface to the mix a while ago and enjoy the digital modes. Even made a few DX contacts on 160 and 6 meters. Thrilling every time. Liz has suggested I might be a NERD. Perhaps.
